Persian Celebration at the longest night of the year By Rashin Kheiriyeh

The last night of autumn, December 21, the winter solstice and the longest night of the year, is known as “Yaldâ” or “čelle(h)” in Iran. It has its roots in Mithraism (sun worshiping) and its rituals.

In Iran today: Maryam (22) accidentally kills her husband Nasser (65) and is sentenced to death. The only person who can save her is Mona, Nasser's daughter. All Mona has to do is appear on a popular live TV show and forgive Maryam.

The word Yalda, refers to the Persian celebration of the Winter Solstice "Shab-e Cheleh Festival", which falls on the 21st of December in the Gregorian Calendar.
